At the end of the 1980’s the peasants’ income was rather low. Their average annual income was around 134 yuan. But great changes took place and in 1980, the average personal income increased approximately 18% reaching 160 yuan. Their income doubled in 1983. After that there appeared an even more consistent tendency for income to rise. In 1984, a peasant earned an average of 309.77 yuan. In 1986, his earnings almost tripled. During the eight years, the peasants 5 income had been rising at a rate of 25% each year. It is evident that the life of the Chinese peasants has been and will be improving.
