1.The bar charts below give information about the underground railway system in six cities.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar charts illustrate data about the underground rail networks in six cities, in terms of their age, size and annual rider-ship. It is clear that the three oldest underground systems are larger and serve significantly more passengers than the newer systems.
The London underground is the oldest system, having opened in 1863. It is also the largest system, with 394 kilometres of route. The second largest system, Paris metro, is only about half the size of the London underground, with 199 kilometres in length. However, it serves more people per year. While only third in terms of size, the Tokyo system is the most used, with 1,927 million passengers per year.
Of the three newer networks, the Washington D.C. under-ground is the most extensive, with 126 kilometres of route, com-pared to only 11 kilometres and 28 kilometres for the Kyoto and Lisbon systems. The Lisbon network is the newest, having opened in 2001, while the Kyoto network is the smallest and serves only 45 million riders per year. (169 words)

A large number of couples nowadays decide to have babies after spending at least a few years since their marriage. Many factors are contributing to this trend and I believe its advantages outweigh its demerits.
There are two main driving forces behind this trend. The changing employment pattern is a primary one. As more women have pursued an education and entered the workforce, they tend to marry later and have children later in their life. This is unavoidable in many cases because women cannot combine family and work well due to costly childcare. Another factor is that social belief regarding giving birth of children has changed dramatically and people are more concerned about the living expenses than the number of babies they have, unlike older generations.
I believe that both parents and children can get much benefit from have children later. On the one hand, young couples, without babies being a burden, can enthusiastically commit themselves to work and a successful career can be easier to reach. On the other hand, older parents generally have less stressed about income or job security so that they tend to be more patient and can spend more time with their children. It is no doubt that parents’ company is an essential element for children’s healthy growth.
However, having offspring in late life also has disadvantages. It can be more difficult for older women to get pregnant and they may experience more health problems, such as miscarriage, high blood pressure or diabetes, during pregnancy.
