1.The bar chart below shows the numbers of men and women attending various evening courses at an adult education centre in the year 2016. The pie chart gives information about the ages of these course participants.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
The bar chart illustrates the number of male and female adults learning different evening courses at an adult training centre in 2016, and the pie chart provides details about the proportion of students by age groups.
Based on the bar chart, language was the most popular subject among women, with twice as many females (40) as males (20) learning this course. This was true of drama, attended by 20 women and 10 men. Around 25 men chose painting, while 30 women studied the same subject. By contrast, sculpture was the only subject where male learners outnumbered females (10 versus 5).
According to the pie chart, the given courses were dominantly attended by people aged 50 or over, accounting for 42%. This was followed by 40-49s at around a quarter. The percentage for 30-39s and 20-29s was similar, representing 16% and 11% respective-ly. Learners under 20 constituted only 5%.
Overall, more women than men attended the courses at the centre, and most of the participants were elderly people over 50 years old. (175 words)

2.Some people think that instead of preventing climate change, we need to find a way to live with it. To what extend do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.
Climate change has become a widely discussed environmental issue, and raised great concern among both developed and developing coun-tries. While some people suggest that we should adapt ourselves to it rather than prevent it, I disagree with this point of view for the rea-sons below.
First and obviously, the cost of accepting climate change is too high, both economically and culturally. For example, melting of polar ice caps and melting glaciers caused by higher temperatures will conse-quently result in rising sea level, which means hundreds of millions of people living in low-lying areas will be removed. The cost of settling the affected population is inestimably huge. Research also indicates that glacier retreat will pose serious threats to human civilisation, which is a heavier price to pay.
Second, the extensive impacts of global warming make it more real-istic to prevent it than to find the way out. While individual impacts such as droughts, sand storm, floods, heat waves, and hurricanes seem possible for us to address, there are more serious consequences: ex-treme weather sharply reduce habitats of already endangered species and the entire food chain in some area is being affected. Some experts predict that over one million species could become extinct by the mid-dle of this century. Such severe consequences, I believe, are beyond human ability to reverse.
Although some may contend that there has not yet been any scien-tific consensus on the effects of climate change, I hold that the rising sea level, extreme we
