The happiest people in the world may live in Scandinavia, a new study suggests. That\’s according to the United Nations General Assembly\’s World Happiness Report, which ranks countries based on several measures of well-being and analyzes the factors that contribute to that well-being. Denmark was the happiest country, followed by Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Canada.

For years, the tiny Himalayan country of Bhutan has tried to measure \\

1.The word \\(A)

A. bog down

B. cut down

C. break down

D. lay down

解析:本题是典型的词汇细节题,类似的问题还有“The word…is a synonym of…”“The word…probably means…”“The word…could be replaced by…” 选项B.cut down削减、砍倒;选项C.break down崩溃、毁掉;选项D.lay down放下、铺设,都不符合句意。

2.The study made last year showed that________.(D)

A. the more GDP increases, the happier the country is

B. the more GDP increases, the less happier the country is

C. GDP has nothing to do with the well-being of the people

D. increasing GDP doesn’t necessarily bring happiness to people

The study made last year和文中第3段第1句Last year’s study showed that含义是一样的,各个选项中又都突出了GDP这一细节,是一道句子含义理解题。句中的“whereas rich people are happier on average than poor people, increasing GDP in a country doesn’t necessarily boost well—being”是一个让步转折关系的句子,意思是尽管富人普遍比穷人幸福快乐,但是一个国家不断增长的GDP不一定能提高幸福感。

3.The World Happiness Report of the United Nations General Assembly did NOT________.(D)

A. analyze the factors of well-being

B. show people living in Scandinavia are happy

C. rank countries based on measures of well-being

D. indicate GDP is an important factor leading to happiness

The World Happiness Report of the United Nations General Assembly这样首字母大写的专有名词,可以快速定位到第1段第2句,排除选项A和C。

4.According to Paragraph 5, Mexico, Panama and the United Arab Emirates________in the list of happiest countries.(B)

A. ranked lower than the United States

B. ranked higher than the United States

C. ranked in the middle range

D. ranked higher than Scandinavian countries

Mexico, Panama and the United Arab Emirates这些专有名词有助于在原文中快速定位,即第5段第2句。句中的bested by…

5.According to the passage, the new study assessed world happiness on________.(C)

A. a scale of 0-5

B. a scale of 5-10

C. a scale of 0-10

D. a scale of 0-100

解析:本题的选项中所列出来的几个数字,有助于在原文中快速定位,即原文第6段第1句末尾的rate their happiness as a 5.1 on a scale of 0 to 10,因此选项C符合。

6.The study showed that the following factors contribute a lot to differences of well-being EXCEPT________.(A)

A. tolerance of corruption

B. a healthy and long life

C. GDP per capita

D. having people to depend on

只有选项A.tolerance of corruption(对腐败的容忍度)没有出现在原文中。

7.The findings of the new study indicated that the government should________to improve people’s happin
