Good morning! First of all, a warm welcome to all of you attending this forum.
Green development has become a mainstream philosophy, representing people’s aspiration for a better life and the progress of human civilization. During his opening remarks on the Beijing World Horticultural Exposition, President Xi Jinping made five proposals on jointly building the foundation of eco-civilization and jointly promoting green development. China will unswervingly implement the new philosophy of green development, ensure harmony between human beings and nature, and make new contributions to global ecological security.
Guided by the philosophy of green development, China will proactively build modern economic system, accelerate energy conservation and environment-friendly industries. We will develop clean energy by increasing its consumption, and will save resources by recycling the materials. Our goal is to update and improve national governance on environment. To this end, we will deepen institutional reform on eco-civilization by strengthening regulation, economic policies and legislation on environmental protection. In this way, we will be able to have better environmental governance with market-oriented and law-based methods. Taking global green development as a consensus, China will work with other countries to tackle environment-related challenges. We will do our best to hold the COP 15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2020, and jointly implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Chinese government fully recognizes the contributions made by the cooperation council to China’s sustainable development and will continue to support it to play a bigger role. We welcome members of the council and experts to propose more forward-looking and pragmatic suggestions on policymaking concerning China’s environmental protection as well as green development.
