The chart shows the decline of China’s impoverished rural population from about 100 million in 2012 to zero in 2020, and the poverty headcount ratio from around 10％ to zero during the same period.
To eradicate extreme poverty, the government of China adopted a combination of conventional and innovative approaches, which helped improve rural education and healthcare. These approaches included, for example, relocation of poor communities, investment in infrastructure and establishment of new towns.
China’s poverty alleviation campaign is significant, both nationally and internationally. For China, the government has fufilled its promise of lifting the whole people out of poverty. More importantly, the anti-poverty achievements allow more people to enjoy the benefits of its economic boom. Besides, enhancing the quality of life in rural contributes greatly to regional stability. For other developing countries facing extreme poverty, they can learn from China’s success. For instance, China increased its rural employment rate by boosting labor-intensive industries and sent its government officials to work in remote distressed clXGclS. Both are quite effective in helping promote employment in rural clXGclS.
